On August 27th, Field Advisor Danneile Davis participated in a panel discussion called “Behind the Badge: Policing in America” hosted by Soulful Synergy, LLC in partnership with the Rotary Club of Harlem, The Rotary Club of Bronxville, Rotary District 7230 and Rotary District 5710. She was joined by two National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice partners, Chief Eric Jones of Stockton Police Department and Sergeant Anthony Titus of the Gary Police Department, as well as Assistant Director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigations Tony Weingartner. The panel was moderated by Dwayne Norris, Co-Founder Soulful Synergy and Past President of the Rotary Club of Harlem.
The conversation was designed to bring Rotary Club audiences an inside look at policing, what it has been in the past, reforms and innovations happening now, and what it may look like in the future. Danneile grounded the conversation in the history of policing and the framework of police legitimacy. Panelists discussed the importance of and challenges to creating and keeping community-police relationships based on trust and empathy.
